Geak Ring and Sensoria socks latest wearable technology

Image
Sensoria socks from US company Heapsylon have sensors inside the fabric which measure things like pressure and balance. An ankle band collects the information, so wearers can learn how to use their feet better. The Geak Ring from Chinese company Shanda can be used to unlock an Android smartphone - by tapping it. The creators say the ring can also download photos, contact details and other data onto friends' handsets. They claim the ring should last for 99 years, and it does not need to be charged. Pre-orders for the ring will be taken from August, but the socks are still in testing at the moment.

Crazy Technology: See Photos Of Czech Company Testing Flying Bike

Image
Is it a bike? Is it a plane? Three Czech companies have teamed up to make a prototype of an electric bicycle that successfully took off today inside an exhibition hall in Prague and landed safely after a remote-controlled, five-minute flight. Looking like a heavy mountain bike, it weighs 209 pounds, with two battery-power propellers in the front, two in the back, and one each on the sides. An official with Duchek, a maker of bicycle frames, says more powerful batteries will be needed before a human takes a two-wheeled flight. (A dummy rode in the saddle this time around.) No word yet on when it might be available to consumers.

Apple eases iOS app transfers between developers, new owners

Image
Apple's iTunes Connect lets developers smoothly move apps, user reviews, and rankings to new owner in Share Credit: venimo Application developers can now easily transfer their iOS apps to new owners -- along with user reviews and rankings -- directly through iTunes Connect. It's a noteworthy change that Apple slipped in among a slew of announcements at its Worldwide Developers Conference this week. Previously, Apple provided ways for developers to transfer app ownership, but the options were limited and inelegant . Developers should welcome the new transfer capability, as it creates a potential new revenue stream for those who don't necessarily have the interest or resources to maintain and market their apps. Anything Apple (or Google or Microsoft or RIM) can do to make third-party developers happy and wealthier is a good thing; mobile platforms live and die by the size and quality of their app libraries. The det

Yahoo moves to bolster Flickr on phones, acquires photo app developer

Yahoo moved to strengthen the mobile portion of its revamped Flickr photo sharing service, acquiring the developer behind a popular photo editing app. The company said Wednesday it had purchased GhostBird Software, the company behind the PhotoForge mobile photo editor and Kitcam camera app. Yahoo made it clear the apps would be integrated into Flickr, which received a major upgrade last month and now comes with a free terabyte of storage. "Today we acquired GhostBirdSoft for Flickr. Get ready to see your mobile photos in a whole new light!," the Internet company posted to its Twitter account. Rondee, a provider of free conference calling services, also said it had been acquired by Yahoo. The firm posted a message on its homepage saying it would join Yahoo's small business division and that its service is no longer available for new users. The acquisitions are the latest in a string under Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, who is rebuilding the company on the fl

Sony's PS4 details: cheaper than Xbox One, allows used games and offline mode

Image
Sony countered Microsoft by allowing some things that Microsoft restricted with the Xbox One When looking at the two big next-gen consoles, you could easily argue that the  Xbox One  has the more compelling feature set. Improved Kinect, TV integration, seamless multitasking ... it's a tantalizing offer sheet from Microsoft. But the Xbox One also has a not-so-compelling  list of restrictions . Today Sony cleared up several questions about the  PlayStation 4 , announcing that it's both more liberated than the Xbox One, and a bit easier on the wallet. Before we get to that, though, there's the small matter of the console itself. See, when Sony announced the system earlier this year, the company  told us plenty about it, but didn't show us much of anything. It was obvious that Sony was holding out for E3, and so here it (finally) is. Feast your eyes on that hunk of black boxiness pictured above. MacBook Pro with Retina Display vs. 2013 MacBook Air (13-inch)

Image
Gizmag compares the specs (and other features) of the 13-inch 2013 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina Display Image Gallery  (12 images) Sometimes the Apple rumor mill gets a little ahead of itself. Earlier this year, we heard that Apple's 2013 MacBook Air  might sport a Retina Display . Well, so much for that. The new MBA,  announced today , is a relatively minor update over its 2012 predecessor. But that doesn't mean it doesn't also have a few very nice upgrades. Let's break them down, as we compare the specs (and other features) of the new 13-inch MacBook Air to the same-sized MacBook Pro with Retina Display . View all Before we get started, note that we're only dealing with the 13-inch models of each laptop. The Air also comes in an 11-inch model, and the Retina MacBook Pro also comes in a 15-inch model. And though Apple will let you pay extra to upgrade many components, we are, for simplicity's sake, dealing with the standard models

INVENTOR TURNS SMARTPHONE INTO BREATHALIZER

Image
Ben Biron and Jonathan Ofir, Alcohoot founders.  (inc.com image) Ben Biron is a 24-year-old Israeli army veteran who has invented a fully portable breathalyzer that plugs into your smartphone, according to the Huffington Post. Biron calls it Alcohoot , and touts it as “the world's first smartphone breathalyzer.” The ultra-modern, space-age design of the device comes with an app that not only charts blood-alcohol levels over the course of a user-programmed time period but links users with nearby taxis and post-bar restaurants, hotels and more, too. Biron says his motivation for his invention is to decrease drunken driving and all its associated bad consequences. Biron and his co-founder, Jonathan Ofir, first became aware of the seriousness of drunk driving in 2010 as soldiers in the Israel Defense Force. No one could avoid a sign posted prominently at the army base's entrance which warned tha
